Neck & Décolleté Wrinkles

So let’s talk about it… I tried to sound sophisticated in my blog post title by calling them décolleté wrinkles, but let’s just call a spade a spade, shall we? I’m over 35 with a larger chest and I have boob wrinkles! Damn it!

I know, there is so much else going on in the world….. nope, not getting into that in this post. This is going to be light-hearted and we are all going to laugh together, okay?! OKAY! Boob wrinkles. Right? Okay. I said it. I don’t think many people talk about this. We all come in different sizes and shapes and perhaps not all women have to deal with these pesky lines on our necks and chest. But we can all appreciate a good laugh and some skincare recommendations! Am I right?

So here is what in going on on my neck and chest. What I am using to combat the map that appears on my chest in the morning, my night routine, and progress so far…

So why do I have these wrinkles? Well, I won’t get into the science behind it too deeply and bore everyone to sleep. Basically, I am over 35, I have a large chest that is not to firm anymore and tends to “move around” when I sleep. To see the hysterical drawing I found about what big chested women deal with, look to the left! I have 100% woken up like this before! Whoops!

Over time skin loses its elasticity- its ability to “bounce back”. With normal movement and repeated creasing- see the drawing again and imagine how things shift when you sleep :-o you can imagine that after a while, you will get deeper and deeper lines.

One of the key issues with me specifically- that I will use as a PSA here- is that I used to tan a LOT in college. I even worked in a tanning salon and would tan multiple times a week. Of course the studies were out about how bad tanning and prolonged and repeated UV light exposure was for your skin- but I was young and stubborn. We will just leave it at that.

Fast forward many many years later and not only do I have aging skin, but I stressed it out during the time that I was tanning and because of the increased UV exposure it has prematurely aged.

Since I am so much wiser (read: older), I am taking much better care of my skin and my skin care routine has improved greatly. Once I purge it I can show you what my medicine cabinet looks like! :-o It’s crazy how many products I have. I love a good (skincare) cocktail and change up what I am using based on what my skin is doing and what I think it needs at any given time. I read somewhere once that “ your skincare routine isn’t successful unless you emerge from the bathroom looking like a glazed donut”, 100% true for me. Layers ladies! I love layering my skincare!

Since I am a makeup artist I always like to try things before recommending them to others. I received a couple of recommendations recently on how to improve the appearance of my neck and chest wrinkles. I have seen some improvement so far, even though I am not perfect with the routine every night (because, life!), but I have hope that with continued use and plenty of SPF, I can help my wrinkly bits look just a little bit better!

Stuff I’m using in my nightly neck and chest routine:

Step 1:

Cleanse your face, neck, and chest. Always remove your makeup (I haven’t been wearing any) and cleanse your skin using a gentle cleanser. I’m using KORRES Greek Yoghurt Foaming Cream Cleanser, 5.7 fl. oz. I find the lather and smell to be really nice and I don’t get that tight feeling right after washing my face, but it still feels clean.

Step 2:

I just started using the NuFACE Mini Petite Facial Toning Device it is pricey, but I have heard from multiple people that when used regularly it shows improved pore size, skin firmness, and reduces wrinkles. So I’m giving it a try. It has three settings, I am using it at the highest setting all over my face and neck and find there is no discomfort for me. I think it is a little too early to gauge the results of this just yet, but I’m pretty happy so far. I’ll report back in a few more weeks.

I find that I like to use a lot of conductive gel with the NuFACE, so instead of wasting all the NuFACE gel, I bought a cheap Aloe gel- I used Banana Boat (3 pack, on SALE!)- and have been using that in the evening. When I use the NuFACE in the mornings I use the gel that comes with it and leave it on like directed. I do a 20 minute session on my neck and chest area and a 20 minute routine on my face.

Step 3: Rinse!

Rinse ALL the gel off, check your hairline! I accidentally left some in my hairline and when I dried my face and neck, just ICK! when your not expecting a glob of cold goo to drag across your face!

Step 4: Cocktails!

As mentioned, I love skincare cocktails and depending on what my skin’s needs are that particular day will determine what I use. I find that this cocktail below works really well most nights and leaves my skin smooth and firm when I wake up in the morning. I use some products on my face, chest, and neck and some just for my neck and chest. I have other cocktails for when my melasma is getting bad, when my skin is congested and flaky, and when I am having breakouts.

  • Nectifirm Advanced- this is supposed to increase firmness, tone, texture and reduce lines and wrinkle on the neck. I have been using this for about 3 weeks now most nights and do notice a difference in the morning. I have not tried it during the day yet. But will continue to use it at night.

  • The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 30ml- additional moisture retention for the skin. This acid binds to water content and keeps it in the skin to help prevent dryness and helps plump the skin.

  • Sunday Riley CEO Glow (Small $40) or (Large $80, better deal!), I have some uneven skin tone and some melasma (dark spots) and this helps brighten my skin as well as providing another layer of moisture.

  • Moisturizer, if needed. Sometimes I just need a little more moisture, especially if I’ve been outside or taken an especially hot shower and dried out my skin. I like these:

Last but not least…

Boob Pillow (don’t mind the blanket fuzz!)

Step 5: Boob Pillow!

No seriously! This little contraption sits between your girls and separates them. So if you are a side sleeper like me this is MAGIC! My girls no longer smash together, but are nicely cradled into their very own little pillow to separate them and prevent additional wrinkles from forming.

I don’t want to be inappropriate with the pictures, but just imagine that this little guy sits snugly between your breasts against your breastbone. I also wear a Lively Bralette over top to tame the girls, they are supportive and comfortable and I basically live in these since quarantine began. The boob pillow is pretty comfortable and I have noticed results so far. My only initial complaint was that before we turned our air to a more comfortable temperature it was a little warm to sleep with another layer. But if it prevents more wrinkles I will decrease the temp by one degree and wear my boob pillow!

I hope you got a little chuckle and a little info, thank you for dropping in! Let me know below in the comments if there is anything you have found that works for us busty girls!
